About

Hello, my name is Sharlene.

Welcome to my blog

I am a New York native with a passion in hospitality. Growing up in a huge Spanish family, I was always surrounded with people, love and food. Every woman in my family is an amazing cook. With a fully stocked pantry and a hot plate, they are able to cook you a fulfilling meal.

When my husband and I decided to move out of the tri-state area, I quit my job and started volunteering at several non-profits. There I would meet these great and happy people who, like me wanted to help others. For the first year I volunteered in a soup kitchen cooking and packaging meals. Here, I got a refresher course on the fundamentals of how to properly slice and dice produce. We made soups, desserts and all sorts of protein filled meals.

When we finally bought our home I started to look for volunteer opportunities in our area. I found a local non-profit called the Harry Chapin Food Bank. Here, I'd be collecting, sorting, packaging and delivering food all over Long Island.

I also volunteer at a Nature Center maintaining and rehabilitating injured animals. This is where I was able to be up close with snakes, rabbits, turtles, squirrels and all sorts of flying prey. My husband, god bless his soul for dealing with me and my urge to bring home every animal I come across.

This is how we ended up with a small farm ourselves. You'll see throughout my posts I absolutely love taking care of living things. Whether it be people, animals or plants, I am constantly doing something and always on the go. So when you ask me "what do you do all day"...here you go...

HAPPY COOKING!
